Subnautica is an open-world underwater exploration adventure game currently being developed by the independent studio Unknown Worlds (creators of Natural Selection 2).

Features

Dive into a vast underwater world – After crash-landing on an alien ocean world, the only way to go is down. Subnautica’s oceans range from sun-drenched shallow coral reefs to treacherous deep-sea trenches. Manage your oxygen supply as you explore kelp forests, plateaus, reefs, and winding cave systems. The water teems with life: some of it helpful, much of it harmful.

Scavenge, craft, and survive – After waking up in your life pod, you must find water and food and acquire the gear needed for exploration. Gather resources from the surrounding ocean. Craft knives, lights, diving gear, and personal watercraft. Dive deeper and deeper in search of rare resources that allow you to craft more advanced items.

Disrupt the food chain – The ocean is teeming with life; use the ecosystem to your advantage. Lure and distract threatening creatures with fresh fish, or simply swim as fast as you can to escape the gnashing jaws of roaming predators.

Beware the night—predators emerge as the sun sets. The ocean shows no mercy to those caught off guard by the darkness. Areas that are safe to explore by day become perilous at night, yet they also reveal a beauty unseen by those who hide from the dark.

Shape the world—the seafloor in Subnautica features a dynamic voxel terrain system. Dig caves for shelter or to store loot, or collapse cave systems entirely. Collisions with vehicles—or even encounters with exploding creatures—will alter the landscape.

Descend into deep cave systems beneath the seafloor, ranging from dark, claustrophobic passages to caverns illuminated by bioluminescent life. Explore the world beneath the ocean floor, but keep a close eye on your oxygen levels and watch out for the dangers lurking in the dark.
