Product description
Need for Speed: Undercover (Russian: Жажда скорости: Под прикрытием) is the twelfth game in the Need for Speed series, released in November 2008, developed by EA Black Box. The story of Need for Speed Undercover unfolds through cutscenes shown between races, during which federal agent Chase Linh (played by Maggie Q, known for her roles in "Mission: Impossible III" and "Die Hard 4") recruits the player to go undercover in order to expose an international criminal syndicate. Players are given free movement around the city of Three Cities, with a total road distance of approximately 160 km. Among the new features in the game are improved driving skills (similar to role-playing games) and a new "Highway Battle" mode. The main drawback of the game, as cited by gaming media, is primarily its excessive simplicity. Interestingly, vehicle handling depends on whether the car is turning or not: they are very unwieldy on straightaways, while on sharp turns they are rather agile. Unlike its predecessors, the game had a longer development period—16 months—since the summer of 2007, when the NFS development team was split into two groups that would release games alternately. As a result, future entries in the series must undergo a 24-month production cycle instead of 12, while maintaining annual release schedules.
